Accordo di Programma MIUR-ATENEO del 12/9/2005 Piano di potenziamento della Scuola Superiore di Catania International Master in ECONOMICS AND ADMINISTRATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE (MEACH) Academic Year 2007-2008
The Scuola Superiore of the Università di Catania in cooperation with the Consorzio Universitario Archimede of Siracusa organises for the academic year 2007/2008 an International Master in “Economics and Administration of Cultural Heritage” (MEACH), to be held in Siracusa. The annual intake is of 20 students. Objectives The main feature of MEACH is the use of an economic approach within a multidisciplinary perspective, to prepare experts able to operate in the administration of cultural heritage at the international level. Job Perspective The competences acquired create professionals able to: - support and advice public and private decision maker (at an international, national, regional and local level) in the definition of intervention strategies and policies; - operate within public and private cultural institutions (museums, archaeological area, foundations, non profit organisations), supporting for example the planning activity and the evaluation of cultural projects; - work within international institutions or international cooperation projects. Course organisation Duration: one year. The Master course starts the 21st of November 2007. Language of Instruction: English. Lectures: 5 days per week. Location: Siracusa The teaching staff includes Italian and foreign academics and professionals. The Master carries 60 university credits (Crediti Formativi Universitari - CFU), corresponding to 1500 hours divided among: - 450 hours of classes, seminars, tutorials and workgroups (November 2007 – May 2008); - 400 hours of internship (May - September 2008); - 650 hours of individual learning. The Master is divided in 5 modules: Module 1: Conservation: issues and problems Module 2: Economic approach to cultural institutions and policies Module 3: Cultural heritage and local development Module 4: Organisation and management of cultural heritage: evaluation issues and experiences Module 5: Marketing and communication At the end of each module, students will have to sit for an exam. At the end of the program students will have to submit a thesis related to one of the issues investigated during the internship. Admission requirements The programme is open to: - Non EU candidates with an academic qualification equivalent to the Italian 1^ level degree - Bachelor degree - in: Economics, Law, Political Sciences, Arts, Languages, Humanities, Philosophy, Architecture, Conservation, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Sciences, and Art Academies or similar subjects; - EU candidates with an Italian 1^ level degree or a Bachelor degree in: Economics, Law, Political Sciences, Arts, Languages, Humanities, Philosophy, Architecture, Conservation, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Sciences, and Art Academies or similar subjects, obtained from Italian Universities or Academic Institutes or with an equivalent academic qualification obtained by EU universities. The Università degli Studi di Catania, for the realisation of this course, has established partnership with several universities from the Euro Mediterranean area. Up to 10 places are held in reserve for students coming from Partner Universities. Organisation structure The master Coordinator is Prof. Romilda Rizzo (Professor of Public Economics, University of Catania). An Organising Committee oversees the overall academic organisation of the course. It is composed by the Master Coordinator, Prof. Benedetto Benedetti (Scuola Normale di Pisa), and Prof. Sir Alan Peacock (David Hume Institute, Edinburgh). A Scientific Committee, composed by the Master Coordinator, the members of the Organising Committee and a delegate from each of partner Universities, has scientific tasks. Selection of candidates A Commission, composed by the Master Coordinator and two university professors, will select the candidates. The selection id based on the evaluation of the candidates’ qualification. Fee The course fee is € 2.500,00. The Scuola awards grants to the students who get the places held in reserve. Diploma At the end of the Master, a Diploma of International Master in “Economics and Administration of Cultural Heritage” will be awarded to the students who attended the master programme and passed the intermediate and final examinations.
